17th CNLU National Parliamentary Debate – Patna

Introduction The Academic and Debating Committee (ADC) of Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, proudly announces the 17th National Parliamentary Debate, scheduled for 11th–13th September 2026. This prestigious event continues the University’s tradition of fostering intellectual engagement and competitive debating at the national level.

About CNLU

Established in 2006, CNLU has built a reputation as a premier institution for legal education and research. Through conferences, guest lectures, and collaborations with statutory bodies, think tanks, and law firms, the University equips students with both academic rigor and practical insight.

About the Academic and Debating Committee (ADC)

ADC is one of CNLU’s oldest and most distinguished student committees. It has consistently nurtured debating, quizzing, and literary pursuits, while ensuring strong student representation in national and international competitions. Notably, ADC adapted during the COVID‑19 pandemic by hosting online debates and quizzes, and has since returned to in‑person events with remarkable success. Its flagship parliamentary debate has now reached its 17th edition, making it one of the most celebrated inter‑university debating traditions in India.

Debate Format – Asian Parliamentary (3v3)

The competition will follow the Asian Parliamentary Debating (APD) format, with teams of three speakers:

  • Government: Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Government Whip
  • Opposition: Leader of Opposition, Deputy Leader of Opposition, Opposition Whip

Teams will receive three motions per round, with 30 minutes of preparation (5 minutes for motion ranking and 25 minutes for case preparation). Internet use during preparation is prohibited to ensure fairness.

Tournament Schedule

  • Day 1 (11th Sept): Inaugural Ceremony, Briefings (APD, Judge, Equity, Tabulation), Rounds 1 & 2
  • Day 2 (12th Sept): Rounds 3–5, Breaks Announcement, Break Night & DJ
  • Day 3 (13th Sept): Outrounds, Finals, Valedictory Ceremony

Registration Details

  • Fee: ₹3,000 per person (with accommodation)
  • Mode: Offline
  • Eligibility: Open to UG and PG students from recognized institutions
  • Team Cap: 34 teams
  • Adjudicator Policy: N=N
  • Accommodation: Three‑star hotel with transport provided from railway station/airport to hotel and campus

Prizes and Rewards

The debate offers one of the most attractive prize pools in the circuit, totaling ₹2,64,000:

  • Winner: ₹1,00,000
  • Runner‑Up: ₹60,000
  • Semi‑Finalists: ₹36,000
  • Best Speaker: ₹15,000
  • Best Adjudicator: ₹15,000
  • 2nd Best Adjudicator: ₹9,000
  • 3rd Best Adjudicator: ₹6,000
  • Novice Winner: ₹18,000
  • Best Novice Speaker: ₹5,000
