National Moot Court Competition 2026 by ILS Law College, Pune. Register by 25th November 2025.
Established in 1923 as a Public Charitable Trust, the Indian Law Society (ILS) was founded by eminent jurists with a vision to make legal education socially relevant and impactful. In 1924, the Society set up the ILS Law College, Pune, which has since grown into one of India’s oldest and most prestigious law schools.
With over a century of excellence, ILS Law College has nurtured generations of lawyers, judges, and leaders, including former Chief Justices of India and prominent public figures. Known for its pioneering initiatives like the ILS Legal Aid Center (1976), the institution continues to uphold its legacy of quality education, professional ethics, and public service.
Professor S. P. Sathe, a distinguished jurist and academician, served as Principal of ILS Law College (1976–1991), Secretary of the Indian Law Society, and Founder‑Director of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, while also leading civil liberties movements through PUCL; remembered for his humility and deep commitment to rights, his legacy is honoured annually by the Indian Law Society through the Remembering S. P. Sathe series comprising a Public Memorial Lecture, National Conference, and National Moot Court Competition on contemporary themes in law.
To mark the Golden Jubilee of the ILS Legal Aid Center, ILS Law College is proud to announce the theme for this year’s Remembering S. P. Sathe series: “Access to Justice.”
Founded by Prof. Sathe, the Legal Aid Center has worked tirelessly for decades to advance the cause of justice. In line with this vision, the Prof. S. P. Sathe National Moot Court Competition 2026 will focus on housing discrimination based on religion and sexual orientation in private co‑operative housing societies, with the broader theme of horizontal enforcement of fundamental rights.
This proposition encourages participants to critically examine intersectional discrimination and its impact on the urban housing landscape, while reflecting on the constitutional challenges of ensuring access to justice. The competition aims to broaden perspectives and deepen understanding of justice as a living constitutional value.
