About the Organiser

Karnavati University (NAAC Grade A+) is a State Private University established in 2017 at Uvarsad near Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The University is known for its interdisciplinary teaching and academic excellence.

Unitedworld School of Law (UWSL), a constituent school of Karnavati University, offers integrated law programs such as BB.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), along with doctoral research opportunities.

The Centre for Research on Mediation (CRM) at UWSL is dedicated to advancing alternative dispute resolution (ADR) through a blend of theory and practice. The flagship National Mediation Competitions are a key initiative of CRM.

The 2026 edition is organised in collaboration with the Gujarat International Maritime Arbitration Centre (GIMAC) – India’s first specialist hub for maritime and shipping dispute resolution, located at GIFT City, Gandhinagar.

About the Competition

The National Level Mediation Competition 2026 is designed to provide law students with practical, simulation-based learning in dispute resolution. Themes span across Contract & Tort Law, Property Laws, Family Laws, and International Maritime Laws, ensuring a holistic exposure to mediation practice.

Competition Structure and Themes

  • Preliminary Rounds (Contract & Tort Law): Each team participates twice – once as Requesting Side and once as Responding Side.
  • Quarter Finals (Property Laws): Top 8 Mediators and Negotiating Pairs advance based on cumulative prelim scores.
  • Semi-Finals (Family Laws): Top 4 Mediators and Negotiating Pairs proceed on a knock-out basis.
  • Finals (International Maritime Laws): Top 2 Mediators and Negotiating Pairs compete for the championship.

Eligibility

Open to bona fide undergraduate and postgraduate law students enrolled in recognised institutions offering regular law programs.

Team Composition

Each team must consist of three members:

  • One Mediator
  • One Client-Counsel Pair (one student as Client and one as Counsel)

  • Best Negotiating Pair: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, ₹1,50,000
  • Runner-up Negotiating Pair: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, ₹1,00,000
  • 2nd Runner-up Negotiating Pair: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, ₹75,000
  • Best Mediator: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, ₹30,000
  • Runner-up Mediator: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, ₹25,000
  • 2nd Runner-up Mediator: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, ₹20,000
  • All Participants: Certificate of Participation
