The National Judgment Writing & Judicial Reasoning Competition, 2026 is designed to highlight the importance of clarity, fairness, and logic in judicial writing. Courts today not only resolve disputes but also safeguard constitutional values and shape public confidence. At the heart of this process lies the judgment—a document that reflects legal acumen, societal awareness, and ethical responsibility.

This competition provides participants with a factual proposition and challenges them to draft a judgment that demonstrates precision, empathy, and a firm grasp of the rule of law. It is not a mechanical exercise but an intellectual and ethical endeavor that celebrates the craft of judicial reasoning.

Eligibility:

  • Open to students pursuing a 3‑Year LL.B. or 5‑Year LL.B. course from any recognized university/school in India.
  • Individual participation and team participation (co‑authorship of two) are permitted.
  • Participants must write a single opinion based on the given proposition. Multiple opinions are not allowed.

Judgment Format:

Cover Page:

  • Unique Participation Code
  • Name of the Competition
  • Name of the Court
  • Case Number
  • Parties (e.g., ABC v. Union of India)
  • Advocates for both sides (Identity of participants must not be revealed; violation leads to disqualification)

Body:

  • Facts of the Case
  • Jurisdiction
  • Issues for determination
  • Arguments of both parties
  • Relevant Legislations
  • Analysis of arguments and evidence
  • Decision of the Court with reasons
  • Statement on awarding of sentence
  • Date of judgment writing and pronouncement

Submission Guidelines:

  • Language: English only
  • Maximum length: 14 pages
  • Format: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx)
  • Font: Times New Roman, Size 12, 1.5 spacing, justified text
  • Footnotes: Size 10, single spacing, left aligned
  • Citation: Bluebook 20th Edition
  • Page numbers at bottom center
  • Submission via designated Google Form / Email

Registration and Fee:

  • Mode: Online registration through official Google Form
  • Fee:
    • Individual: ₹500
    • Team (two members): ₹800
