ABOUT THE CONFERENCE:

This conference aims to explore the intersections of customary law with modern legal frameworks, focusing on how traditional practices can be harmonized with contemporary legal standards without losing their essence. The idea is to explore how customary laws adapt or resist to the new realities with the transience of social norms, economic transformations and influence of globalization.

THEMES AND SUB THEMES:

The conference welcomes research papers related to, but not limited to, the following thematic areas:
1. Customary Practices and cultural expressions
2. Customary Law and Customary Rights
3. Intersection of Customary Law and Formal Legal Systems
4. Environmental Issues and the Question of Social justice
5. Gender and legal systems
6. Customary Law in Modern Legal Systems: Challenges and Policy Recommendations
7. Miscellaneous:

  • Legal frameworks supporting indigenous entrepreneurship, sustainable economic initiatives, and customary practices in health and well-being.
  • Exploring the intersection of customary practices with modern public health systems and wellness frameworks.

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA:

The conference is designed to engage a diverse group of stakeholders, including but not limited to:
Open to students, researchers, academicians, and practitioners across multidisciplinary fields with an interest in exploring and understanding customary law.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES:

The conference aims to achieve the following outcomes:

  • The conference will provide enhanced understanding of the complexities of customary law and its role in modern society.
  • It will provide policy recommendations that can be used by lawmakers and practitioners to better integrate customary law into the national legal framework.
  • The conference will work to lay down opportunities for collaboration between academics, legal practitioners, and community leaders for future research and projects on customary law.
  • For a wider reach out, a compilation of papers and proceedings from the conference will be published in a special issue of a journal or as an edited volume.

EDITORIAL POLICY:

  • Only original and unpublished work must be submitted. The submitted work must be not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • Author(s) must take particular care that their work does not infringe on the rights of third parties.
  • Plagiarism should not exceed 10% and the use of AI is strictly prohibited.
  • Decision of the Editorial Board on all matters shall be final.
  • Only selected abstracts will have to make the payment.

Abstract Submission Guidelines:

  • Submit abstract (300 words) with 4 keywords.
  • Must include: research methodology, main objective, and conclusion.
  • Deadline: 30 November 2025.

  • Notification within 10 days of deadline.

Final Paper Submission (for accepted abstracts):

  • Minimum length: 6000 words.
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12pt, justified, 1.5 spacing.
  • Footnotes: ILI style, 10pt, justified, single spacing.

  • Max 1 co-author allowed.
