About the Institution:

The Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS), Lucknow, established in 2023, is a premier government institution affiliated with the National Forensic Sciences University. It integrates law and forensic sciences through its unique “Law with Labs” approach. The School of Law, Forensic Justice & Policy Studies began in 2024–25 and focuses on interdisciplinary legal education, forensic practice, and justice delivery.


About Justice J.S. Verma:

Justice Jagdish Sharan Verma (1933–2013), the 27th Chief Justice of India, is remembered for his progressive judicial activism. He authored the Vishaka Guidelines against workplace sexual harassment and chaired the 2013 Criminal Law Reform Committee. His contributions to gender justice, judicial ethics, and constitutional law remain foundational.


Competition Theme:

“Technology, Law and Society: Navigating Emerging Challenges in the Digital Age”

Sub-Themes:

  • Data Protection & Privacy: Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023; Privacy vs Surveillance; Consent in AI & Big Data.
  • Artificial Intelligence & Law: AI and criminal liability; algorithmic bias; AI in investigation and evidence.
  • Cyber Law & Crime: Rise of cybercrimes; dark web & cryptocurrency; cyber forensics.
  • Forensic & Technology Interface: Digital forensics in trials; admissibility of electronic evidence; chain of custody.
  • Technology & Human Rights: Privacy post-Puttaswamy; digital divide; surveillance vs civil liberties.
  • Social Media & Regulation: Free speech vs control; fake news & deepfakes; platform liability.

Eligibility:

Open to all students across disciplines. Entries may be single-authored or co-authored (maximum two authors, even from different institutions).


Registration & Submission:

  • Registration Link: Google Form
  • Fee:
    • Other Universities: ₹200 (single), ₹300 (co-author)
    • UPSIFS Students: ₹100 (single), ₹150 (co-author)
  • Submission Format:
    • Word count: ~1500 words (excluding footnotes)
    • Font: Times New Roman, Size 12, 1.5 spacing
    • Citations: Bluebook 21st Edition, footnotes only
    • Plagiarism ≤10%, AI-generated content ≤20%
    • Submit in both .doc/.docx and .pdf formats via Google Form

  • Result Announcement: 28 May 2026
