Engagement of Law Researchers on Contractual Basis

Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification:
- Graduate in Law from a recognized institution, eligible for enrolment with the Bar Council of India.
- Final-year law students (3-year/5-year programmes) may apply, subject to furnishing proof of qualification at the time of interview/joining.
- Good working knowledge of computers is mandatory.
Age & Nationality:
- Maximum age: 30 years (relaxable by Hon’ble the Chief Justice in appropriate cases).
- Must be a citizen of India.
Disqualifications:
- Cannot be engaged elsewhere on honorarium/payment basis at the time of joining.
- Must not have been involved in criminal cases involving moral turpitude.
- Must not be facing disciplinary proceedings before the Bar Council or any authority.
Term and Nature of Engagement
- Short-term contractual basis, extendable up to 3 years or till the retirement/cessation of office of the Hon’ble Judge.
- In exceptional cases, extendable up to 4 years subject to satisfactory performance.
- No right to regular appointment or continuance beyond engagement period.
- Premature discharge possible without notice; one-month prior notice required if leaving voluntarily.
Remuneration
- Fixed monthly honorarium of ₹50,000 (subject to revision).
- No additional allowances or perks.
Selection Process
- Based on assessment prescribed by the Hon’ble Judge concerned.
- Only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview/assessment.
- Final selection rests with the Hon’ble Judge to whom the Law Researcher is attached.
Application Procedure
- Apply online only via the prescribed Google Form available on the official website of the High Court of Uttarakhand.
- Last date for submission: 03.08.2026.
- Applications submitted after the deadline or incomplete applications will be rejected.
- No TA/DA will be provided for appearing in the interview.
- Selected candidates must sign an Undertaking/Declaration as per Schedule–II before joining.
Governing Scheme
The engagement shall be governed by the “Scheme for Engagement of Law Researchers in the High Court of Uttarakhand” issued by the Hon’ble High Court of Uttarakhand.
