About Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL):

The Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL) was established in the year 2016 by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT). The Centre is aiming to create a dedicated pool of legal experts who could provide technical inputs for enhancing India’s participation in international trade and investment negotiations and dispute settlement. CTIL is the India Chair for the WTO Chairs Programme.

About Moot Court Competition:

In today’s interconnected world, the importance of understanding international law is greater than ever, and Bennett University is at the forefront of nurturing future legal minds with a global outlook. The upcoming III CTIL–Bennett International Moot Court Competition will welcome teams from across the globe, offering a platform for engaging debates and rigorous legal analysis. Centered on the theme of International Trade Law, the competition will explore issues that shape cross-border commerce, fairness in global trade, and the balance between free markets and state interests. Participants will gain hands-on experience in tackling real-world legal challenges, sharpening advocacy skills, and delving into international treaties, conventions, and case law. More than just a competition, this event is designed to foster intellectual growth, cross-cultural dialogue, and a deeper appreciation of international law’s role in strengthening the global economy.

  • Semifinals, Finals & Valedictory Ceremony: 8 February 2026
  • Release of Moot Proposition: 10 November 2025
  • Commencement of Registration: 10 November 2025
  • Closing of Registration: 15 December 2025
  • Last Date for Clarifications: 25 December 2025
  • Release of Clarifications: 5 January 2026
  • Memorial Submission Deadline: 15 January 2026
  • Inaugural Ceremony & Researcher Test: 6 February 2026
  • Preliminary & Quarterfinal Rounds: 7 February 2026

Eligibility & Team Composition:

  • Open to students enrolled in 5‑year integrated law programmes or 3‑year LL.B. programmes (India & abroad).
  • Each team must consist of 2 Speakers + 1 Researcher.
  • Maximum 40 teams (first‑come, first‑served basis).

Registration & Fees:

  • Indian Teams: ₹7,500
  • International Teams: USD 100
  • SAARC Teams: USD 50 (Includes accommodation & food from 6–8 February 2026)

Memorial Guidelines:

  • Submit 6 hard copies at final registration (6 Feb 2026).
  • Soft copies due by 15th Jan 2026 via submission link.
  • Structure includes: Cover Page, Table of Contents, Jurisdiction, Facts, Issues, Summary of Arguments, Arguments Advanced, Prayer.
  • Evaluation Criteria (100 marks):
    • Knowledge of facts & law (20)
    • Interpretation & application (20)
    • Research depth (20)
    • Clarity & organization (20)
    • Style, grammar & citation (20)

Oral Rounds:

  • Preliminary, Quarterfinal, Semifinal & Final rounds.
  • Each team: 30 minutes for arguments + 3 minutes rebuttal/sur‑rebuttal.
  • Scoring Criteria (100 marks):
    • Knowledge of facts & law (30)
    • Use of authorities (25)
    • Ability to answer questions (15)
    • Court mannerism (10)
    • Time management (10)
    • Rebuttals/sur‑rebuttals (10)

Awards & Prizes:

  • Winning Team: ₹1,00,000 / USD 1100 + Trophy
  • Runner‑Up: ₹70,000 / USD 800 + Trophy
  • Best Researcher (Male/Female): ₹10,000 / USD 110 + Trophy
  • Best Speaker (Male/Female): ₹10,000 / USD 110 + Trophy
  • Best Memorial (Prosecution/Defence): ₹10,000 / USD 110 + Trophy
  • All participants receive Certificates of Participation.

  1. Results: The decision of the Judges and the Organizing Committee shall be final and binding.
  2. Clarifications: Teams may send queries regarding the moot problem to bnmcc@bennett.edu.in with the subject line “Request for Clarifications” on or before 15 December 2025. A consolidated clarification note will be released to all registered teams by 24 December 2025.
  3. Grievance Redressal: Any other concerns raised by participating teams will be addressed by the Grievance Redressal Committee.
