Platinum Jubilee International Conference on Law, Governance, and Society:

The Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL), IIT Kharagpur, in collaboration with the Centre for Rural Development and Innovative Sustainable Technology and the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, proudly hosts the Platinum Jubilee International Conference on Law, Governance, and Society. Under the academic leadership of Prof. Dipa Dube, Prof. Somnath Ghosal, Prof. Uday Shankar, and Prof. Amrita Sen, the organizing committee brings together interdisciplinary expertise in law, governance, rural development, and social sciences to mark seventy‑five years of IIT Kharagpur’s pioneering contribution to higher education and nation‑building.


About the Institute:

Founded in 1951, IIT Kharagpur is India’s first IIT and a trailblazer in higher education, research, and innovation. With a strong interdisciplinary ethos, the Institute has consistently advanced excellence in science, technology, law, public policy, and management. The Platinum Jubilee is both a commemoration of past achievements and a forward‑looking intellectual milestone, reaffirming IIT Kharagpur’s commitment to socially relevant research, inclusive dialogue, and transformative governance.


About the Conference:

Law and governance are deeply embedded in social realities, shaping and being shaped by the communities they serve. This conference interrogates the gap between formal legal promises and lived experiences, asking fundamental questions about rights, voices, and exclusions. It will critically engage with themes such as technological disruption, environmental justice, postcolonial legal orders, gender justice, and marginalized communities, while reimagining law and governance as dynamic spaces of negotiation and transformation.


Conference Themes:

  1. Rights, Technology and Society: Law in the Age of Algorithms
    AI, data governance, cognitive liberty, digital justice, and inequality.
  2. Pluralism, Language Rights and Cultural Justice
    Indigenous knowledge, linguistic justice, decentralisation, and ecological reparation.
  3. Sustainable Rural Development: Society, Policy, and Governance
    Rural infrastructure, livelihoods, climate resilience, and participatory governance.
  4. Bhartiya Gyan: Past, Present and Future
    Civilizational constitutionalism, Indian legal traditions, NEP 2020, and ecological knowledge.
  5. Envisioning Law and Legal Systems in Viksit Bharat
    Corporate governance, constitutional rights, intellectual property, and democratic accountability.

Call for Papers:

  • Abstract: 500–800 words (Deadline: June 15, 2026)
  • Full Paper: 8,000–10,000 words (Deadline: July 31, 2026)
  • Citation Style: OSCOLA
  • Notification of Acceptance: June 30, 2026
  • Registration Completion: August 15, 2026

Selected papers will be considered for publication in an edited volume.
