ABOUT THE CENTRE FOR ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION, RGNUL:

Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR) at the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, has been established to promote the interest of students and researchers in Alternative Dispute Resolution constituting dispute resolution methods like Arbitration, Negotiation, Mediation and Conciliation. CADR endeavours to promote and develop ADR as a vehicle of socio-economic and political justice. The Centre consistently undertakes initiatives in the field of ADR ranging from hosting competitions to enriching the research discourse in the field.

ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL ARBITRAL AWARD WRITING COMPETITION 2025:

Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution, RGNUL is collaborating with Surana & Surana International Attorneys, headquartered in Chenna, India to organize the sixth edition of the Surana & Surana and RGNUL International Arbitral Award Writing Competiton, 2025. No fees will be charged at any stage of the competition. Individual as well as participation in a team of two i.e., co-authorship is allowed.

ELIGIBILTY:

The Competition is open students pursuing B.A. LL.B., LL.M, Ph.D, M.Phil, at any university across the world as on the date of the release of the competition problem. In the event that a student of the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) secures a position among the top three, he/she shall not be eligible for the top three prizes. However, such a student shall be felicitated with a special prize by Surana & Surana International Attorneys, Chennai, in recognition of his/her performance. 

IMPORTANT DATES:

  • Release of Problem – 16.10.2025
  • Last date to seek Clarifications – 05.11.2025
  • Release of Clarification – 10.11.2025
  • Last date for Submissions – 15.12.2025
  • Results – Last week of January 2026.

FORMATTING GUIDELINES:

  1. The Award must follow the chronological format outlined below. Participants are encouraged to refer to the Arbitral Award Draft given under Annexure-I for guidance:
    a. Cover Page
    b. Background of Facts & Issues
    c. Arguments of the Claimant
    d. Arguments of the Respondent
    e. Decision
    f. Conclusion (Issue-wise)
    g. Award (Including Costs)
    h. Signature of Arbitrators
    i. Place of Arbitration
  2. The Award must be submitted in both Microsoft Word and PDF formats.
  3. The entry must be typewritten in Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing, justified alignment, and proper page numbering. Margins must be 1 inch on all sides.
  4. All footnotes should be in Times New Roman, font size 10, single-spaced, and justified and should follow the Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed.).

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

  1. Participants are not required to fill out a separate registration form. The submission form linked below serves as the candidate’s bonafide registration.
  2. There is a complete prohibition on the use of Generative AI tools in the preparation of the final submission. Any use of such tools will lead to immediate disqualification.
  3. Participants must submit their Awards on or before 15th December, 2025, by filling out the Registration and Submission form.
  4. Any clarifications, if required, may also be submitted through the Clarification form.
