ITS Global Policy Fellowship Program 2026:

The Institute for Technology & Society (ITS) invites researchers, students, and professionals to apply for the ITS Global Policy Fellowship Program 2026. Now in its 10th edition, the program has hosted nearly 60 fellows from various countries, all sharing a common interest: technology and its intersections with law.

Call for Applications:

The ITS Global Policy Fellowship Program 2026 offers a unique opportunity for people interested in deepening their understanding of the Brazilian technological landscape.

The ITS team has prepared an intensive four-week program, which includes a series of meetings with ITS partners in Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and São Paulo.

Theme:

Selected candidates will be able to choose one of our three main areas of work to develop their research:

Rights and Technology: content moderation, personal data protection, artificial intelligence, privacy, intellectual property, digital identity, and connectivity.
GovTech: new development models, distributed technologies, economic and social processes, and Digital Public Infrastructures (DPI).
Democracy and Technology: disinformation, civic engagement, AI & Climate, online participation, future of work, techno diversity, and more.

Fellowship Responsibilities:

Fellows will be expected to:

  • Present their research topics and professional experiences to the ITS team;
  • Collaborate, whenever possible, with the ITS team on projects and publications;
  • Participate in lectures and meetings with lawyers, public officials, the press, and industry representatives;
  • Deliver a lecture during the International School on Law & Technology in Rio, held in partnership with the University of Montreal.

Eligibility:

  • Program open only to foreign applicants;
  • Fluency in Portuguese is not required (but English proficiency is mandatory);
  • We are looking for students, researchers, and professionals who are currently enrolled in or have completed a Master’s, PhD, or MBA, and who follow debates in the field of public policy and the Internet. Applicants from all fields are encouraged to apply.

Important dates:

  • Applications open: 28/11/2025
  • Applications close: 18/01/2026
  • Selected candidates notified by email: 13/02/2026
  • Program duration: 4 weeks, from 29/06/2026 to 24/07/2026

Institute will provide:

  • Round-trip airfare between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, plus accommodation in São Paulo;
  • Round-trip airfare between Rio de Janeiro and Brasília, plus accommodation in Brasília.

Institute will not provide:

  • International travel to and from Brazil;
  • Accommodation during the three weeks in Rio de Janeiro, where the program takes place;
  • Additional expenses related to your stay in Brazil, aside from those mentioned above;
  • Visa fees (if applicable).
