Announces 1st Arbitral Award Writing & Presentation Competition, 2027

Organised by CCADR | December 2026 – February 2027

The Chanakya Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CCADR) at Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna proudly announces the 1st CNLU Arbitral Award Writing & Presentation Competition, 2027. This pioneering initiative is designed to provide law students with practical exposure to the adjudicatory process of arbitration and the craft of drafting reasoned arbitral awards.

About CNLU

Established under the CNLU Act, 2006 (Bihar Act No. 24 of 2006), CNLU is recognised under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. Since its inception on 15 July 2006, the University has been committed to:

• Raising national legal standards to a competitive international level.
• Promoting legal awareness in furtherance of constitutional goals of justice, equality, and rule of law.

CNLU integrates mooting, debating, ADR competitions, and co‑curricular activities into its academic framework, ensuring holistic professional development for its students.

About CCADR

Founded in 2021, CCADR serves as a hub for academic research, skill‑building, and professional engagement in dispute resolution. Its initiatives include:

• National Mediation Competition (NMC)
• National Client Counselling Competition (NCC)
• Arbitral Award Writing & Presentation Competition (2026–27)
• Publications: Samvaad (newsletter), Untangled (ADR blog), ADR Radio, ADR’o Clock.

CCADR collaborates with leading law firms, ADR institutions, and organisations such as Kochhar & Co., Singhania & Partners, TT&A, HSA Advocates, PSL Advocates & Solicitors, King Stubb & Kasiva, Poovayya & Co., Dentons Link Legal, JSA Advocates & Solicitors, MCIA, IAMC Hyderabad, Manupatra, SCC Online, LiveLaw, Bihar Tourism, and international ADR organisations including TiradoADR and McPhilamy ADR.

Introduction to the Competition

The competition immerses participants in the resolution of complex disputes, requiring them to:

• Analyse factual and legal issues.
• Assess evidence and interpret contractual/statutory provisions.
• Apply principles of substantive and procedural law.
• Draft a reasoned, enforceable arbitral award.

It emphasises clarity of reasoning, evidentiary assessment, procedural fairness, and impartial decision‑making, thereby simulating the arbitral adjudication process.

Objectives

• Enhance knowledge of arbitration principles and procedures.
• Develop practical skills in drafting arbitral awards.
• Encourage analytical reasoning and problem‑solving in arbitration.
• Promote critical thinking and precision in legal drafting.

Mode & Authorship

• Final Award Submission Deadline: 15 December 2026
• Results Announcement: 15 January 2027
• Hybrid Format:
  • Written submissions online.
  • Top 8 teams to present their awards offline at CNLU on 13–14 February 2027.
• Participation allowed individually or in teams of two (co‑authorship).

Eligibility

• Students enrolled in 3‑year LL.B. or 5‑year integrated LL.B. programmes.
• Students pursuing 1‑year or 2‑year LL.M. programmes.
• Students pursuing any other recognised undergraduate or postgraduate law degree.

Competition Guidelines

• Submissions in .doc/.docx and PDF format.
• All submissions via Google Form.
• Detailed themes, rules, formatting requirements, and evaluation criteria to be released in the formal brochure.
