About the Victim Advocacy Project (VAP):

The Victim Advocacy Project (VAP) under the Centre for Criminology and Victimology, National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) is a justice‑focused initiative aimed at strengthening victims’ access to the criminal justice system. VAP provides structured legal representation and sustained advocacy, addressing long‑standing gaps in victim participation by supporting individuals from FIR to trial, appeal, and rehabilitation. The Project seeks to re‑centre victims as rights‑bearing individuals and build an adaptable model of victim advocacy through litigation, research, and field engagement.

Fellowship Details:

  • Type of Employment: Contractual; Retainer
  • Joining Date: 1 July 2026
  • Location: Delhi NCR
  • Stipend: ₹20,000 per month + up to ₹2,000 (travel and filing reimbursements)
  • Duration: Fellowship tenure as per project requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10th pass
  • At least 2 years of community service experience

Desirable Qualifications:

  • 12th pass / Graduate degree
  • Prior work with NGOs, legal aid, victim support, counselling, or community mobilisation
  • Familiarity with the criminal justice system or grassroots organisations

Fellowship Role & Responsibilities:

Paralegal Fellows will:

  • Act as the first point of contact for victims and support them through different stages of the justice process
  • Build rapport with victims, families, and community organisations
  • Assist in case identification, documentation, and record‑keeping
  • Facilitate access to legal support and institutional mechanisms
  • Coordinate with litigation fellows, mentors, and partner organisations for case follow‑up
  • Participate in training, review meetings, and capacity‑building sessions under NLU Delhi supervision
  • Maintain regular reporting and submit documentation in line with project protocols

Essential Requirements:

  • Sensitivity, empathy, and trauma‑informed engagement with victims
  • Proficiency in Hindi and/or regional languages of Delhi NCR
  • Strong communication and basic documentation skills
  • Commitment to access to justice and community‑based work
  • Willingness to undertake field‑based work and participate in mentorship processes
