About the Organisation:

The Square Circle Clinic, housed within NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, is a pioneering initiative in criminal justice. It is dedicated to providing pro bono defence to death row inmates and undertrials, while simultaneously advancing research in critical areas such as forensic science, mental health, torture prevention, and access to legal aid. The Clinic embodies NALSAR’s commitment to justice, equity, and academic excellence.

Internship Overview:

The Clinic is inviting applications for its 2026 Internship Programme, designed to immerse students in the realities of criminal justice and legal aid in India. Interns will gain exposure to litigation, research, and advocacy, while contributing to projects that intersect law, psychology, and social sciences.

Eligibility:

Applications are open to students enrolled in:

• Undergraduate or postgraduate programmes in Law
• Humanities and Social Sciences
• Psychology and Psychiatry
• Media and Communication

Responsibilities of Interns:

• Conduct criminal justice research and documentation
• Assist in legal aid and defence-related work
• Contribute to projects on forensics, mental health, torture, and access to justice

Duration & Mode:

• Full-time internships: 4 to 12 weeks
• Part-time internships: Minimum 12 weeks
• Mode: Primarily in-person (New Delhi, Pune, Nagpur); remote internships considered only in exceptional cases

Stipend:

• ₹10,000 for full-time internships (per 4 weeks)
• ₹5,000 for part-time internships
