About NHRC:

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), established under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, is mandated to protect and promote human rights in India. In furtherance of its objectives, NHRC regularly engages professionals and researchers to strengthen its institutional capacity and address emerging human rights concerns.

NHRC Junior Research Consultant (JRC) Engagement – 2026:

Purpose & Role:

• JRCs will assist NHRC in research, analysis, documentation, and thematic studies on human rights issues.
• They will contribute to reports, seminars, workshops, and policy inputs, supplementing NHRC’s in-house expertise.
• Engagement is contractual consultancy, not permanent employment.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Essential Qualification:
  • LL.B. or Postgraduate in Social Sciences (Political Science, Sociology, International Relations, Social Work, Human Rights, Developmental Communications, etc.) with minimum 60% marks.
• Desirable Qualification:
  • M.Phil, LL.M, Ph.D., published papers, or additional specialization.
• Experience:
  • At least 1 year of research experience in government/semi-government organizations, international agencies, NGOs, or reputed institutions.
  • Internship/training experience is not counted.
• Age Limit:
  • Must be below 32 years as of the advertisement date.

Tenure & Remuneration:

• Initial engagement: 2 years, extendable annually up to 5 years based on performance.
• Remuneration: ₹70,000 per month (inclusive of taxes).
• Annual increment: ₹5,000 per year.
• Travel reimbursement:
  • AC 2-tier rail / economy class air travel.
  • Hotel: ₹2,250/day, Taxi: ₹338/day, Food: ₹900/day.

Selection Process:

• Advertisement: Published on NHRC website and newspapers.
• Screening Committee: Shortlists applications.
• Final selection: Based on personal interview by Selection Committee.

Terms & Conditions:

• Consultants are independent professionals, not NHRC staff.
• Bound by discipline, punctuality, confidentiality (Official Secrets Act, 1923), and NHRC rules.
• Leave entitlement: 1.5 days per completed month (non-carry forward).
• Termination:
  • NHRC may terminate without notice.
  • Consultant may resign with one month’s notice.
• Police verification: Mandatory; adverse report leads to termination.
