About the Organisation:

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is inviting applications for a Legal Intern position at its Lebanon Field Office, Beirut. This internship offers exposure to international legal practice in areas of administrative law, public international law, humanitarian law, refugee law, and governance within the UN system.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Head FLO, the intern may be assigned tasks such as:

  • Providing legal support on disciplinary and administrative law matters, including drafting opinions and advising on compensation, entitlements, and disciplinary actions.
  • Conducting in‑depth legal research on administrative, human resources, and public international law, including human rights, humanitarian, and refugee law.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and finalizing legal documents such as contracts, donor financing agreements, project agreements, briefing papers, and reports.
  • Supporting resolution of issues related to privileges and immunities of the Agency and its personnel.
  • Advising on internal justice matters, staff misconduct, and governance issues.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations to raise awareness among UNRWA staff on administrative and disciplinary law.
  • Participating in legal meetings, training sessions, and events, including note‑taking and report preparation.

Qualifications / Special Skills:

  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from a graduate program in law (Master’s or equivalent) with specialization in public international law, administrative law, contract or commercial law.
  • Completed at least two full academic years of study towards a law degree.
  • Prior work experience is not required but will be considered an advantage.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.

Important Notes:

  • Internship is unpaid. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Lebanon may need to obtain appropriate visa/work authorization.
  • The United Nations does not charge any fee at any stage of the recruitment process.
