About the DPIIT IPR Chair:

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, established the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Chair at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru under the SPRIHA Scheme (Scheme for Pedagogy & Research in IPRs for Holistic Education & Academia). The Chair is dedicated to advancing education, research, and outreach in the field of Intellectual Property Rights. It supports specialized courses, organizes seminars and workshops, and fosters policy dialogue to strengthen pedagogy and produce high‑quality scholarship in IPR.

About the Positions:

NLSIU invites applications for two full‑time Research Assistant positions to support the DPIIT IPR Chair. These are contractual roles based at the NLSIU campus in Bengaluru, with an initial tenure of one year, extendable subject to performance.

The Chair is undertaking a major study on “Patent Landscape of Cancer Drugs Relevant to India and the Impact on Affordability and Accessibility.” Accordingly, one RA position requires a biomedical background, while the other requires legal expertise with specialization in patents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature reviews and prepare research plans.
  • Analyze cancers with high prevalence in India, associated therapies, and issues of affordability and accessibility.
  • Map the patent landscape of cancer drugs relevant to India.
  • Organize workshops, consultations, and prepare case studies.
  • Conduct interviews and surveys as part of empirical research.
  • Draft research outputs including reports, academic publications, and short‑form pieces (blogs, commentaries, policy briefs).
  • Publish at least two short‑form contributions annually for the NLS Scholarship Repository.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Biomedical RA: Graduate degree in biomedical sciences or MBBS.
  • Legal RA: Graduate degree in law.
  • Desirable Qualifications:
    • MSc/LLM in relevant fields.
    • Specialization in patents (evidenced by publications or patent search experience).
    • Prior academic, research, or industry experience in IPR.
    • Interest in empirical research and fieldwork.
    • Skills in quantitative data analysis.

Duration:

  • One year from the date of appointment, extendable based on performance.

Compensation:

  • Monthly remuneration: ₹47,000 – ₹67,000, commensurate with qualifications.
