Legal Internship Opportunity at CAT:
The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) offers a structured internship program for law students, designed to provide hands-on exposure to administrative law and judicial processes. This initiative helps students understand the functioning of a quasi-judicial body while fostering professional development in the legal domain. Interns will gain practical insights into the Administrative Tribunals Act, 1985, CAT (Procedure) Rules, and CAT (Practice) Rules, along with experience in filing, listing, and maintaining judicial records.
Eligibility:
- Open to law students enrolled in recognized Law Colleges/Universities.
- Applications must include:
- College Identity Card
- Recommendation Letter from the college (addressed to the Principal Registrar, CAT, Principal Bench, New Delhi).
Application Procedure:
- Submit application with required documents (College ID + Recommendation Letter).
- Upon approval by the Competent Authority, the student will be invited to undertake the internship at CAT.
Duration:
- Minimum: 4 weeks
- Maximum: 6 weeks (extension subject to performance evaluation and approval).
Internship Guidelines:
- Supervision: Interns will work under the Deputy Registrar (Judicial).
- Attendance: Daily attendance to be marked with Section Officer (Judicial Administration).
- Work Association: Interns may assist staff members, PPS/PS attached to Hon’ble Chairman/Member.
- Confidentiality: Strict confidentiality and integrity must be maintained.
- No External Assignments: Interns cannot engage in other internships or legal work during the program.
- Non-Disclosure: No information or documents may be shared without authorization.
- Workplace Decorum: Discipline, dignity, and minimal mobile phone usage are expected.
- Dress Code: Formal attire is mandatory.
- Non-Remunerative: Internship is unpaid; interns bear their own expenses.
- Reporting: Interns must report daily to the Deputy Registrar (Judicial).
Internship Structure:
- Limit: Maximum of 5 interns per batch at CAT Principal Bench.
- Schedule: Internship begins on the first working day of the month and ends on the last working day, unless extended.
- Orientation: Interns will be briefed at the start of the program.
- Presentation: On the final day, interns must present a report summarizing their learning.
Completion & Certification:
- Interns must submit a detailed report of their experience.
- Upon successful evaluation, an Internship Certificate will be issued and forwarded to the concerned Law College/University via email.
Extension & Discontinuation:
- Extension: Up to 2 additional weeks may be granted based on performance.
- Discontinuation: Any violation of guidelines will result in immediate termination of the internship without issuance of a certificate.
Note:
Interns may bring personal laptops, but usage must strictly comply with confidentiality and integrity guidelines. Sensitive information must not be stored without authorization.
This internship scheme is designed to provide law students with practical exposure to administrative law, judicial procedures, and case management. By engaging directly with the functioning of CAT, interns will gain valuable knowledge that will strengthen their professional careers in the legal domain.
