SEBI Legal Internship Programme – Mumbai:
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) offers a structured Legal Internship Programme designed to give law students practical exposure to the regulatory and enforcement mechanisms of India’s securities market. Interns work directly with SEBI’s legal division, gaining hands-on experience in compliance, policymaking, and enforcement activities.
Eligibility:
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled in a law school/university recognised by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and UGC.
- Be in either:
- 4th or 5th year of a 5-year integrated law course, OR
- 2nd or final year of a 3-year LL.B. programme.
- Have secured at least 60% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA in the previous semester.
- Be below 28 years of age at the time of application.
- Note: Students who have already appeared for their final semester exams are not eligible.
Internship Details:
- Mode: Full-time, physical (offline).
- Location: SEBI Headquarters, Mumbai.
- Duration: Minimum of 4 weeks, beginning on the first working day of the month.
- Stipend: Up to ₹10,000 per month.
Application Process:
- Applications must be submitted online via SEBI’s official portal.
- The application window remains open from 1st to 7th of every month for internships commencing the following month.
- A cover letter on the official letterhead of the applicant’s law school/college/university (signed and stamped) must be uploaded in the prescribed format.
- The cover letter must clearly mention the aggregate percentage obtained in previous semesters.
- Applications without the prescribed format will not be considered.
Selection Criteria:
- Selection is merit-based, with emphasis on academic performance.
- Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Exposure to corporate or securities law.
- Prior internship experience.
- Publications, moot court participation, or similar achievements.
- Shortlisted candidates will be notified via email.
- Selected candidates must confirm acceptance within 2 days of receiving the offer, failing which the opportunity may be withdrawn.
This internship provides a unique opportunity for law students to understand the functioning of India’s securities regulator and to develop skills essential for careers in corporate and financial law.
