About Fellowship:

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has announced the launch of the SHAKTI Scholars: Young Research Fellowship, inviting applications from young students and researchers across India. This initiative is designed to foster high‑quality research on issues concerning women, with the aim of influencing policy, strengthening academic engagement, and advancing gender equality.


Objective of the Fellowship:

The fellowship seeks to:

  • Encourage multidisciplinary research on women’s issues.
  • Promote academic and policy‑oriented studies that contribute to gender equality, safety, and empowerment.
  • Provide opportunities for young scholars to engage in meaningful research aligned with NCW’s mandate.

Areas of Research:

Applicants may submit proposals on any women‑centric topic. Indicative themes include:

  • Gender‑based violence and women’s safety
  • Legal rights and access to justice
  • Cyber safety and POSH implementation
  • Women in leadership, politics, and grassroots development
  • Health, nutrition, and education
  • Skill development, inclusive social growth, and economic empowerment
  • Entrepreneurship and labor participation
  • Socio‑cultural practices affecting women
  • Work‑life balance and policy interventions

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Academic Qualification:
    • Minimum: Graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized institution.
    • Preference: Post‑graduates, M.Phil., Ph.D. candidates, or independent researchers with strong interest in women’s issues.
  • Nationality & Age:
    • Open to Indian citizens only.
    • Age between 21 and 30 years at the time of application.

Application Process:

Applicants must submit:

  • Online application (Annexure I format).
  • A research proposal (1500–2000 words) clearly outlining:
    • Topic, objectives, and research questions
    • Rationale and uniqueness of the topic
    • Methodology (sample size, data sources, tools, techniques)
    • Expected outcomes and policy relevance
    • Ethical considerations
    • Work plan and timeline

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Academic certificates
  • Recommendation letter (if applicable)
  • Proof of age and identity

Selection Process:

  • Applications reviewed by an Expert Committee.

  • Final selection rests solely with NCW.

Fellowship Details:

  • Duration: 6 months.
  • Grant: ₹1,00,000 (disbursed in phases linked to progress reports and milestones).

Terms & Conditions:

  • Monthly progress reports and presentations required.
  • Final submission: 5 hard copies + soft copies (PDF & Word) + plagiarism check.
  • Fellowship is non‑transferable.
  • Unsatisfactory progress or plagiarism may lead to termination and refund of grant.
  • NCW retains intellectual property rights over the research findings.
  • Fellows must acknowledge NCW support in all publications.
