About the Event

The 1st All India Maharaja Surajmal Moot Court Competition 2026 is designed in a hybrid format (Online + Offline) to rigorously test the advocacy, research, and legal reasoning skills of law students. The competition will focus on contemporary criminal law issues under the newly enacted statutes.

Eligibility

  • Open to students pursuing 3‑year or 5‑year LL.B. courses from BCI‑recognised institutes.
  • Each team must comprise 3 members (2 Speakers + 1 Researcher).

Mode

  • Online Rounds: November 2–4, 2026 (Researcher’s Test, Prelims & Quarter‑Finals)
  • Offline Rounds: November 13–14, 2026 (Semi‑Finals & Finals) at Maharaja Surajmal Institute, New Delhi

Moot Problem Highlights

The proposition engages participants with complex issues under the new criminal laws (BNS, BNSS & BSA), including:

  • Circumstantial evidence and the ‘Last‑Seen’ theory
  • Reversal of acquittal by High Courts
  • Constitutional validity of Trial in Absentia under Section 356 BNSS for proclaimed offenders
