NLSIU Research Fellowships – Call for Applications

About the Programme

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru invites applications for its Research Fellowships Programme, designed to advance innovative and high-impact scholarship in law, social sciences, and public policy.

This initiative builds upon the legacy of the Academic Fellowship (AF) Programme, which has successfully graduated three cohorts into academic positions and PhDs worldwide. Established in 2025–26, the Research Fellowships Programme expands this vision to create a dynamic platform for cutting-edge research, interdisciplinary engagement, and impactful scholarship.

Aim & Objectives

The programme seeks to:

• Institutionalise research and policy interventions in law, social sciences, and public policy.
• Diversify and expand interdisciplinary research in legal studies and cognate disciplines.
• Develop a robust intellectual community of faculty, fellows, and researchers.
• Achieve leadership in knowledge creation and dissemination through global collaborations.

Types of Fellowships

The programme offers multiple categories of fellowships:

Application Timeline

• Intake Periods: Twice a year – January and July.
• Application Calls: Advertised at least three months prior to each intake.
• Note: Candidates may apply only for the intake round in which they intend to commence the fellowship. Reapplications are permitted without limit.

Current Fellows

• Dr. Mayur Suresh – Reader in Law, SOAS University of London; research in law and ethnography, socio-legal studies, and authoritarian regimes.
• Dr. Shireen Azam – Political theorist; working on her monograph Reclaiming Caste: A New History of the Muslim in Modern India.
