2nd International Debate Competition – RPNLUP, Prayagraj

Introduction

Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University (RPNLUP), Prayagraj, through its Debate & Discussion Club (DDC), proudly announces the Second Edition of the International Debate Competition scheduled for Saturday, 26th September 2026 at the Academic Block, RPNLUP, Gaddopur, Phaphamau, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. With a total prize pool of ₹75,000, the event promises to be a landmark in academic discourse and student engagement.

About the Debate & Discussion Club (DDC)

Under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Sr. Prof. (Dr.) Usha Tandon, the DDC has emerged as a dynamic platform fostering critical thinking and intellectual engagement. Following the success of the inaugural International Debate Competition in 2025, which drew participation from across India and Nepal, the club continues to expand its global academic footprint.

Theme of the Competition

The preliminary round will address the motion: “Economic Sanctions have Become Instruments of Geopolitical Coercion Rather Than Lawful Measures Under International Law.” This thought‑provoking topic invites participants to critically examine the ethical, legal, and practical dimensions of sanctions in global politics.

Format and Rules

• Eligibility: Undergraduate law students from universities in India and abroad.
• Rounds: Two rounds – Preliminary and Final.
  • Preliminary Round: All teams debate the set motion.
  • Final Round: Top four teams advance; motion disclosed on the spot with 20 minutes preparation.
• Team Composition: One team per university, comprising two speakers (one for and one against the motion).
• Speech Duration: 4 minutes per speaker, plus 1‑minute grace.
• Q&A Round: Structured interjection with concise responses.
• Language: English.

Prizes

• Best Team: ₹50,000
• Runner‑Up: ₹20,000
• Best Speaker: ₹5,000

Registration Details

• Indian Teams: ₹1000 per team
• International Teams: $20 per team
• Fees cover modest accommodation (need‑based), meals, and stationery. Travel expenses to be borne by participants.
• Important Dates:
  • Notification & Registration Opens: 11th July 2026
  • Last Date of Registration: 25th August 2026
  • Announcement of Registered Teams: 30th August 2026
  • Event Date: 26th September 2026
