About the Competition:

The 4th Virtual Moot Court Competition is a flagship initiative designed to advance practical legal education. Conducted entirely online, the competition provides a simulated courtroom experience where participants engage with contemporary legal issues, refine their research and drafting skills, and develop persuasive advocacy. Structured in multiple rounds—Preliminary, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Grand Finals—the competition ensures rigor, fairness, and academic enrichment.

Moot Problem:

The competition problem revolves around the Digital Communications Accountability and National Security Act, 2026 (DCANSA) in the fictional Republic of Indica. It raises pressing constitutional questions on privacy, free speech, encryption, surveillance, and national security. Participants will argue complex issues such as:

  • Whether Section 24 of DCANSA violates the right to privacy under Article 21.
  • Whether mandatory traceability requirements infringe freedom of speech under Article 19(1)(a).
  • Whether restrictions satisfy constitutional tests of legality, necessity, and proportionality.
  • Whether the State can compel intermediaries to alter encryption architecture in the interests of national security.

This problem situates students at the intersection of digital rights, cybersecurity, and constitutional law, making it both timely and intellectually challenging.
