About Organizers:

The University of Delhi, with its venerable legacy and international acclaim, stands as a premier institution of higher learning in India, embodying the values of dedication, steadfastness, and truth. Its Faculty of Law, established in 1924, has nurtured generations of eminent judges, advocates, policymakers, and leaders. Law Centre-I (LC-I), founded in 1970, continues this tradition by offering evening LL.B. classes and pioneering experiential learning through clinical education, simulations, and advocacy training. Renowned for its commitment to pro bono education and excellence in moot courts, legal aid, and social justice outreach, LC-I remains a hallmark of holistic legal education and professional development.

About Moot Court Competition:

1st R.N. Mittal Memorial National Moot Court Competition, 2026, organized by the Moot Court Society, Law Centre-I, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, in official collaboration with the R.N. Mittal Memorial Trust.

The competition will be held in OFFLINE MODE at the Law Centre-I campus from 24th to 26th April 2026. The R.N. Mittal Memorial National Moot Court Competition is a nationally recognized academic initiative instituted in memory of Late Shri R.N. Mittal, a distinguished jurist and educator. The competition is designed to advance the art of advocacy, promote rigorous legal research, and provide law students with a platform to demonstrate their professional skills in a simulated courtroom environment. It reflects the vision of Shri Mittal in fostering excellence in legal education and nurturing future leaders of the Bar.

Objectives:

The competition aims to:

  • Encourage students to engage with contemporary and complex legal issues.
  • Enhance skills in drafting memorials, structuring arguments, and oral advocacy.
  • Provide exposure to judicial reasoning and professional courtroom practice.
  • Facilitate academic and professional networking among participants, faculty, and practitioners.

Eligibility:

Participation is open to students enrolled in recognized law universities and institutions across India. Each team generally comprises:

  • Two Speakers – responsible for oral arguments.
  • One Researcher – responsible for memorial drafting and research support.

Structure of the Competition:

The competition is conducted in multiple stages to ensure fairness and rigor:

  • Preliminary Rounds: Each team argues once for the petitioner and once for the respondent.
  • Quarterfinals and Semifinals: Knockout rounds judged by distinguished academicians and practitioners.
  • Final Round: Presided over by sitting judges and senior advocates, ensuring a professional and rigorous evaluation.

The competition honors excellence through multiple categories:

  • Best Team Award – Trophy, certificate, and cash prize.
  • Best Speaker Award – Recognition for outstanding oral advocacy.
  • Best Memorial Award – Award for excellence in written submissions.
  • Best Researcher Award – Honoring analytical and research skills.

– Last Date for Clarifications: 5th April 2026
– Memorial Submission Deadline: 21st April 2026, 11:59 PM

Registration Fees:

  • Rs 1500 + 18% GST (inclusive of breakfast, lunch and dinner)
  • Total Fee Payable – Rs 1770/- (inclusive of GST)
  • [As per the University Rules, Law Centres affiliated to the University of Delhi are exempted from paying the GST on registration fee]
