‘The 2023 NHRC-RGNUL Human Rights National Moot Court Competition’

 

‘The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab (RGNUL)’ in collaboration with ‘The National Human Rights Commission of India (NHRC)’ has initiated a moot competition on Human Rights.

 

About National Human Rights Commission of India (NHRC):

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India was established on 12 October, 1993. The statute under which it is established is the Protection of Human Rights Act (PHRA), 1993 as amended by the Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Act, 2006. It is in conformity with the Paris Principles, adopted at the first international workshop on national institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights held in Paris in October 1991, and endorsed by the General Assembly of the United Nations by its Regulations 48/134 of 20 December, 1993. The NHRC is an embodiment of India’s concern for the promotion and protection of human rights. Section 2(1)(d) of the PHRA defines Human Rights as the rights relating to life, liberty, equality and dignity of the individual guaranteed by the Constitution or embodied in the International Covenants and enforceable by courts in India. It is in this background this Competition is being launched.

 

About The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab (RGNUL):

The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala (RGNUL) is an autonomous National Law University (NLU) established under the second wave of reforms instituted by the Bar Council of India. Established in 2006, RGNUL has garnered a pan-India reputation as a stellar institution for legal research and education. In May 2015, RGNUL became the first and the only NLU to have been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an ‘A’ grade. In March 2018, RGNUL was amongst the four NLUs to have been granted an autonomous status by the University Grants Commission. The University has been ranked among the top 10 law schools in India in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

 

Important Details:

 

This edition of the competition will be held from ‘24th to 26th February 2023’ at the RGNUL Campus in Patiala. The theme of the competition is ‘Right to mental health as a human right can build a better society’. 

 

Eligibility:

 

The representation will be through a team of not more than three (3) and no less than two (2) students. All participants must be full-time candidates presently enrolled in an undergraduate degree programme in law at any Bar Council of India recognized university.

 

Location:

 

This edition of the competition will be held from ‘24th to 26th February 2023’ at the RGNUL Campus in Patiala.

 

Registration:

 

Provisional Registration and Final Registration may be done by filling the below mentioned form(s). Please note that Final Registration form requires a Letter of Authorization signed by the Head of the Institution/Head of the Moot Court Committee/Society/Association mentioning the details of all the three members. Provisional registration received after 7th January 2023 (7.1.2023) may not be considered. Confirmation of Registration of the teams will be duly communicated. Fee Details:
