What Is The Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC)?

Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), Established in 1991 as an independent, not-for-profit organisation has a proven track record in providing neutral arbitration services to the global business community. SIAC arbitration awards have been enforced by the courts of Australia, China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Thailand, UK, USA, and Vietnam, amongst other New York Convention signatories. SIAC is ranked 2nd among the world’s top 5 arbitral institutions and is the most preferred arbitral institution in the Asia-Pacific.

The Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) internship programmes (In-person and Virtual) are now open for application. As part of the internship, you will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic, multicultural and professional team of arbitration lawyers on the administration of cases under the SIAC Rules. You will contribute to SIAC’s work, including assisting the Secretariat with research projects on various topics. The Internship Programmes are open to both local and overseas candidates.

What Are The Details Of the Opportunity?

  • SIAC In-Person Internship Programme for 2024:
    • Period & Duration of Internship
      • The internship will be for a fixed period of three (3) months over two semesters:
      • First Semester – March 2024 to May 2024
      • Second Semester – June 2024 to August 2024
    • Remuneration: The SIAC In-Person Internship Programme will provide a monthly stipend of SGD 1,000.00. Aside from the stipend, candidates will have to bear all costs associated with the internship including, inter alia, round-trip airfare, room and board, and other expenses. SIAC will assist with processing the appropriate visa (if required). The stipend will be paid at the end of each month of the internship.

  • SIAC Virtual Internship Programme 2024:
    • Duration of Internship: The internship will be for a fixed period of two months, on a part-time basis. You will contribute 10 hours of work each week, unless otherwise agreed. Please indicate (as specifically as possible) your (i) period of availability; and (ii) preferred dates.
    • Term Schedule:
      • Batch 1 – February to March 2024
      • Batch 2 – June to July 2024
      • Batch 3 – September to October 2024
      • Batch 4 – November to December 2024
    • Remuneration: The internship is not remunerated.
    • Eligibility: This programme is being offered in a virtual format from Singapore. You are required to ensure that you have complied with your university’s / college’s policies and/or the relevant government regulations, if any, to undertake this virtual internship from your current country of residence and/or other relevant jurisdictions.
    • Application Package

      • (ii) copies of your college/university and/or postgraduate transcripts;
      • (iii) statement of interest describing your objectives and motivation in applying for the programme;
      • (iv) a letter issued by your college/university confirming you are accepted to or enrolled with the college/university, and your participation in SIAC’s virtual internship programme does not violate the university’s policies and the relevant government regulations, if any, of your current country of residence and/or other relevant jurisdictions; and
      • (v) letter(s) of reference and writing sample(s) (optional).
