Indian Law Society established ILS Law College in 1924, with a view of facilitating infrastructure essential for the study of law. The establishment of the Law College by the Indian Law Society was indeed a pivotal moment in Indian Legal Education as the College exemplified academic excellence, social relevance, and professional competence. Imaginative realignment of written law or the hard law with a view to reorient them with the Indian social milieu has always been the strength of the Indian Law Society.

NLS Diversable Alliance: The NLS Diversable Alliance (NLS DA) is a student collective that advocates the interests of students with disabilities at the NLSIU and beyond.

Law and Society Committee at NLS Bangalore: The Law and Society Committee started out as an informal group of students interested in critical legal thinking. In 2002-’03, it was constituted as an Activity-Based Committee under the Constitution of the Student Bar Association. The committee has been engaged in many voluntary, pro-bono activities not just in the university but in Bangalore. It has strived towards realizing its goal of making society count in the field of law by collaborating with NGOs in Bangalore, research centres in NLSIU and other such facilitative bodies. The Committee is keen to give ‘law and society’ an expansive interpretation, thereby keeping its basic criteria for contributions simply that of high academic merit, as long as there is a perceivable link.

About the Webinar

Through this webinar, the organizers hope to shed light on how the provision negates the dignity and personhood of the disabled is contrary to constitutional and legal principles. The webinar will serve as a plea for the reconsideration of the provision so that it does not become law. India’s disabled children and disabled citizens deserve nothing less.
