Each year, the Magazine Committee of the Government Law College, Mumbai, organizes a national level fiction essay writing competition, Belles Lettres: The J. E. Dastur Memorial Fiction Essay Writing Competition. The Magazine Committee of the Government Law College now invites entries for the same.

In the past, literary personalities such as Mr. Ruskin Bond, Mr. Gregory Roberts, and Mr. Jeffrey Archer have judged the competition. The competition aims at identifying and acknowledging talent from all parts of the country, encouraging the student community across regional, class and other barriers, to express themselves and showcase their literary flair, and to uphold the power of the written word.

 The topics this year are:

 1)     Incorporate the following sentence anywhere in your story:

“It was a grotesque sight, yet still a thing of great beauty.”

2)     Build your story around the following characters in the given situation:

Galileo Galilei, Joan of Arc & Narendra Modi, trapped inside a submarine.

3)     Incorporate all of the following objects in your story:

Gloves, piano, mirror

4)     Build a story revolving around the following image:

Word Limit: 

1500-3500 words

Deadline:

The deadline for entries is 2 January 2017.

Prizes:

1st Place:  Rs. 8000/-

2nd Place: Rs. 6000/-

3rd Place:  Rs. 4000/-
