The National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU) was established by the Rashtriya Vidhi Sansthan Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam, Act No. 41 of 1997, and substituted by Act No. 6 of 2018, enacted by the Madhya Pradesh State Legislature.

The National Law Institute University, Bhopal is organizing a National Seminar on Health Law on 18 and 19 March 2024. The Indian healthcare sector has witnessed immense growth in recent years. While these developments in medical infrastructure and the industry offer better potential of quality healthcare, they also raise complex legal questions concerning access, malpractice, and accountability.

The aim of this national seminar is to bring together legal scholars, medical professionals, jurists, academicians, policymakers, students and others interested in the field to critically examine the interdisciplinarity of law and medicine.

What Are The Details Of The Opportunity?

  • Eligibility: Academicians, professionals, students, and researchers are welcome to participate and submit their papers for the seminar.
  • Themes:
  • Global Healthcare Perspectives: Role of the World Health Organization in shaping international healthcare norms and standards.
  • National Healthcare Framework: Legal perspectives on mental health, legal implications of magic remedies, scrutinizing government healthcare schemes, legal considerations in maternity and child health, Constitution- right to health, access to healthcare, Law relating to surrogacy in India, Surrogacy and health issues.
  • Clinical Oversight and Legal Dynamics: Defining negligence within the medical context, establishing and evaluating standards of care, causation, vicarious liability, res ipsa loquitur, burden of proof, medico-legal reports, distinguishing negligence from malpractice, maintaining professional discipline, ethical considerations, informed consent, and doctor-patient relationship.
  • Euthanasia: Active euthanasia, passive euthanasia, comparative perspective.
  • Health Insurance: Regulatory framework for health insurance, claims adjudication, ethical issues in insurance practices, and access to public health insurance schemes.
  • Guidelines:
  • The submissions are to be made only in Microsoft Word Format (.docx or .doc files) by filling the given form. Soft copies should be submitted by 29 February 2024.
  • All articles must be accompanied by an abstract not exceeding 500 words along with keywords.
  • Tentative word limit for articles- 2000 to 4000 words.
  • The word limit can have a 10% deviation on the discretion of the Editorial Board. Further, it is not inclusive of the Footnotes and Abstract.
  • Heading and subheadings will be formatted with case size of 12 in Times New Roman and Bold.
  • Body of the writing will be formatted with case size 12 in Times New Roman.
  • Footnotes shall follow a line spacing of 1, and the rest of the manuscript shall follow a line spacing of 1.5.
  • All referencing and footnoting shall strictly adhere to the standards laid down in the Oxford University Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (4th ed.). Substantive footnoting is impermissible.
  • All the contributions should be the original work of the contributors and should not have been submitted for consideration in any other Publication. Plagiarized papers will be rejected.
  • Co-authorship is permissible up to a maximum of two authors.
  • The authors shall not disclose their identity anywhere in the body of the manuscript.
