What Is The Permanent Mission Of India?

The Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations is the formal title of the Indian delegation to the United Nations (UN). India was among the founding members of the United Nations and signed the Declaration of the United Nations on January 1, 1942. The internship programme at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations provides an excellent opportunity for young scholars to familiarize themselves with India’s approach to multilateralism and handling of global issues at the UN.

What Are The Details Of the Opportunity?

  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Interested Indian citizens, OCI card holders, and foreign nationals may apply for the internship.
    • For the internship, a candidate must be in the final year of an undergraduate course or possess a graduate degree before the commencement of the internship. Preference may be given to applicants with excellent academic track records from institutions of repute and credible recommendations from faculty who have taught or guided them in the past, as well as to research scholars. An intern must not have attained the age of 30 years on the date of application.
    • An intern will be required to work only on-site (i.e., within the premises of the mission). The off-site internship is not available.
    • Duration of Internship: Interns can apply at any time of the year. The applicant will be informed about the start of their internship upon selection. Once selected, the internship will last for one to six months.
  • Mode of Internship:
    • An intern will be required to work from within the mission’s premises.
    • No financial remuneration shall be paid to the interns.
  • Apply For The Internship: For internships, applicants may send their applications to the Head of Chancery by post (Add: 235 East 43rd Street, New York, NY 10017).
  • Required Documents: Duly fill out the application form.
    • Copy of at least three documentary proofs of identity, which may include a copy of the passport, Aadhar card, voter ID, or PAN card, and proof of residence.
    • Curriculum Vitae.
    • Introduction letter from the Head of Institution on the official stationery where the applicant studied.
    • There is no objection certificate from the university or institution in case the internship is to be pursued in parallel with an ongoing course.
    • Self-attested certificates and transcripts for all the accomplishments mentioned in Paragraphs 8, 9, and 13 of the Application Form (educational qualifications, current courses being pursued, and projects undertaken).
  • Selection Procedure: All applications will be scrutinized by a Selection Committee appointed by the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, and intimation will be sent to selected candidates. The decision of the Selection Committee shall be final and binding, and no queries shall be entertained after the completion of the selection process. The selection process may take up to 90 working days from the date of application for the internship.
  • Termination of internship: The mission may terminate the engagement of the intern at any point without giving any reason. The decision shall be final in this regard. Interns can leave the programme if they so desire, giving the mission prior notice of one week.
