The High Court of Bombay, also known as the Bombay High Court, is the high court of the Indian states of Maharashtra and Goa, and the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. It is one of the oldest high courts in India. It is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The High Court has regional branches at Nagpur and Aurangabad in Maharashtra and Panaji, the capital of Goa.

The first Chief Justice, the Attorney General, and Solicitor General of Independent India were from this court. Since India’s Independence, 22 judges from this court have been elevated to the Supreme Court and 8 have been appointed to the office of Chief Justice of India.

The court has Original Jurisdiction in addition to its Appellate. The decisions of this court can be appealed only to the Supreme Court of India. The Bombay High Court has a sanctioned strength of 94 judges (71 permanent, 23 additionals).

The building is part of The Victorian and Art Deco Ensemble of Mumbai, which was added to the list of World Heritage Sites in 2018.

About the Opportunity

Online applications are invited from eligible candidates for the preparation of a Select and Wait List of 3 candidates each for the posts of ‘Stenographer (Higher Grade)‘ and ‘Stenographer (Lower Grade)‘ on the establishment of High Court of Judicature at Bombay, Bench at Aurangabad.

If any candidate is willing to apply for both posts, he/she should register two applications separately for the post of Stenographer (Higher Grade) and Stenographer (Lower Grade).

Eligibility

  • The candidate must possess a University Degree. However, this condition may be relaxed, if a candidate is already working for not less than five years as a Lower Grade Stenographer in the High Court or in any other Court or Tribunal or in the office of Advocate General or Government Pleader.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate possessing a Degree in Law.
  • Possess passing certificate from Government Commercial Certificate Examination or examination conducted by Government Board or I.T.I. for speed of 100 w.p.m. or above in English Shorthand and 40 w.p.m. in English Typing
  • Possess Computer Certificate about proficiency in operation of Word Processor in Windows and Linux, in addition to M.S. Office, M.S. Word, Wordstar and Open Office Org. obtained from any of the following Institutes:
    • Universities established under the Maharashtra Universities Act, 1994
    • Goa/Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education

Age Limit

A candidate must not be less than 21 years and more than 38 years of age on the date of publication of this advertisement.

Procedure for application

  • The eligible candidate as per the detailed advertisement may apply from 18th February to 5th March on the website.
  • The procedure for filling in the form, as per the given advertisement, is available on the website.

  • While filling in the information regarding educational qualification, the candidate should mention his/her qualification in the following sequence – SSC, H.S.C. Graduation Post Graduation, etc.

Selection Procedure

  • Candidates shall be selected on the basis of examination in Shorthand, Typing, and Viva-voce.
  • The Shorthand Transcription & Typing Test will be taken on Computer.
  • The eligible candidates will have to appear for the Shorthand Dictation Test, Typing Test, and Viva-voce, as & when called for, at their own expense

Stenographer [Higher Grade]

  • Number of posts:  Select List of three candidates and Wait List of three Candidates.
  • Pay Matrix & Level: S : 15 Rs. 41800- 132300 and other allowances, as admissible, under the relevant rules.

Stenographer [Lower Grade]

  • Number of posts:  Select List of three candidates and Wait List of three Candidates.
  • Pay Matrix & Level:  S : 14 Rs. 38600 – 122800 and other allowances as admissible, under the relevant rules.
