How did you apply for the internship?

Applied through the online mode, via email. 

First day formalities, infrastructure, first impression

• We had to present ourselves on the first day of internship, as well as there was a formal introduction of the NGO’s core team and mentors.
• Apart from this, we learned about the NGO’s aims and objectives, the type of society the organisation envisions, and its accomplishments in achieving those goals. We were also taught the value of the CV and how to write a SOP.

Main Tasks

• As an intern the main tasks included research work, which included researching on NGOs which have left an impact on the society and the legal system, like the PUCL, Naz Foundation and the Animals for Care foundation and on various landmark cases one of them being the M.C Mehta v. Union of India.
• The second activity involved a field visit, during which we had to design a questionnaire and interview residents of a local slum in order to learn about the issues  they encounter on a daily basis.

Work Environment

• The internship was conducted in a hybrid mode given to the situations arisen due to the pandemic. The research work was mainly conducted online and for the field work one had to step out on the ground zero to know the reality.
• The work environment was healthy and positive.The mentors personally provided a great deal of support and guidance. The professionalism of the organization also impressed a lot.

Good Things

The learning environment, which in turn provided a very healthy setting for all of the interns to thrive, was one of the best aspects of the internship. Internships are supposed to be a terrific place to learn and grow, and I’m delighted I was able to get one. In addition, the mentors were always willing to assist and served as a constant source of inspiration.

Bad Things

There was no bad thing as such about the internship.

It was majorly a virtual internship. Charges of commutation to the place of fieldwork, have to be borne by the interns.

Anything else?

Interning at a non-profit organisation might help you develop a sense of community service. I’m grateful for the opportunity to get valuable experience throughout my internship. I hope to put what I’ve learned here to good use for the advancement of society.
