Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), an institution of National Importance, is a central university under the aegis of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, established by the Parliament of India through Act No. 31 of 2020 as a pioneering National Security and Police University of India.

Rashtriya Raksha University, India is inviting all serving and retired practitioners to pursue a Ph.D. on a subject that will shape the future of law and national security.

What Are The Details Of The Opportunity?

  • Phd. Program: Invitation of Expression of Interest for PhD is invited from Serving and Retired Practitioners in the following areas
    • Artificial Intelligence and Non-Lethal Weapons
    • Article 36, Additional Protocol-1 and Weapons Review of Lethal Autonomous Weapons System
    •  Means and Methods of Warfare and International Humanitarian Law in the age of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
    •  Interplay between technology and law in Space Exploration
    •  Collision between military Artificial Intelligence and Civilian Artificial Intelligence
    •  Correlations between cyber space and nuclear regimes.
  • Type: Full-time / Part-time: Applicants may also choose to pursue their PhD on a full-time or part-time basis, based on their availability and commitments.
  • Eligibility to apply: Applicants must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant technical and/or legal field. Candidates with a background in international law will be given preference.
  • Ph.D. Program Requirements: The PhD program has certain requirements that candidates must fulfill:
    • Entrance Examinations: Candidates required to pass written exams that assess their understanding of the subject matter and their ability to critically analyze relevant literature and research.
    • Research Proposal: Applicants need to develop a comprehensive research proposal outlining their intended area of study, research objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes.
    • Coursework: Candidates required to complete 12 credits of course work.
    • Thesis: The core component of a PhD program is the completion of an original and significant research project. Candidates are expected to conduct in-depth research, collect and analyze data, and present their findings in the form of a thesis.
    • Defense: After completing the thesis or dissertation, candidates are typically required to defend their research before a committee of faculty members. This defense involves presenting their work, answering questions, and engaging in a scholarly discussion about their research.
    • Teaching and Coaching: PhD candidates may have teaching or coaching responsibilities. This could involve assisting in undergraduate courses, mentoring students, or providing guidance to junior researchers.
    • Fellowships will be awarded to full time scholars based on the merit, providing a monthly amount of INR 40,000.
