The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India, established on October 12, 1993, is a pivotal institution in the country dedicated to the safeguarding and promotion of human rights. Its foundation is rooted in the Protection of Human Rights Act (PHRA), 1993, later amended by the Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Act, 2006 and Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Act, 2019. This statutory framework provides the NHRC with the legal mandate and authority to uphold human rights within the nation. The Paris Principles of Human Rights, adopted in 1991 for the promotion and preservation of human rights and supported by the United Nations at its General Assembly in 1993 through its Resolution 48/134, served as the foundation for the creation of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University was the first university to be established by the Government of NCT of Delhi in 1998, with the aim of facilitating and promoting studies, research and development work in emerging areas of higher education with a special focus on professional education. The University has been graded “A++” by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore. The University also secured its maiden QS world ranking in 2023 and now features among the top 1500 institutions of the world. Furthermore, it has attained AIU’s Status of Regular Membership in November, 2008. It figured 19th nationally in the NIRF rankings for 2023.
What Are The Details Of The Competition?
- Theme: The moot proposition for the NHRC – USLLS National Moot Court Competition, 2023 is based on Human Rights issues pertaining to Refugees, Asylum-seekers and illegal crossborder migrants.
- Date of the event: 27th–29th October 2023
- Venue: University School of Law & Legal Studies, GGS Indraprastha University, Sec-16 – C, Dwarka, New Delhi – 110078.
- Eligibility: The Competition shall be open for bona fide students who are currently pursuing an integrated 5-year B.A. LL.B. Programme or 3 year LL. B Programme in India. Such institution must be recognised by the Bar Council of India. Only one (1) team per institution is allowed to participate.

- 27.10.2023: Inaugural Function and Registration of Teams at the University School of Law and Legal Studies. Draw of Lots and Exchange of Memos for Preliminary Rounds I and II and Researcher’s Test
- 28.10.2023: Preliminary Rounds-I and II Quarter Final Rounds Semi Final Rounds
- 29.10.2023: Final Rounds and Prize Distribution followed by High Tea at the University School of Law and Legal Studies.
