The Moot Court Association of Government Law College is pleased to announce the 45th Sir Jamshedji Kanga and Dr. Y. P. Trivedi National Tax Moot Court Competition, in association with the Chamber of Tax Consultants and the Rotary Club of Bombay. This competition is scheduled for 6th-7th April, 2018.
This Moot Court Competition is one of India’s first ever Moot Court Competitions where the Moot Proposition shall be based on Bitcoin.
The Competition is named after two of the most respected legal names in tax law. Late Sir Jamshedji Kanga, former judge of the Bombay High Court and Advocate General of Maharashtra, was looked up to as an expert on matters of Income Tax.
Renowned for his esteemed practice in income tax law, Dr. Y. P. Trivedi is a designated Senior Advocate of the Bombay High Court. He has also served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha between the years of 2008 and 2014.
This Moot Court Competition boasts of a unique opportunity provided to participants, where they will argue some rounds of the competition in the actual courtrooms of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, Mumbai.
This Moot Court Competition is one of India’s oldest moots and being the Moot Court Association of Government Law College’s first ever moot, this competition occupies a special place in the history Government Law College, Mumbai.
The competition has the distinction of having been won in the past by legal eagles like Fali S. Nariman, Shyam Divan, Hon’ble Mr. Justice S. J. Vazifdar and Amit Desai who have contributed to the legal landscape of India.
