Himachal Pradesh National Law University Journal (HPNLU Law Journalis a peer-reviewed, academic Journal of Himachal Pradesh National Law University which offers the contributors with a forum to explore the expanses of legal research. The Journal is an extensively refereed annual online publication which aims to establish a pedestal seminal for scholastic discussion on multifarious legal issues of contemporary relevance. The contours of analysis may partake interdisciplinary inquiry underlying a legal essence. Further, the Journal regards that the obligation of legal institutions transcends beyond a mere expedient ideational mechanism for law, which dilutes its diverse encounters.

The HPNLU Law Journal invites contributions of academic distinction from academicians for the maiden issue of the journal, to be out by September 2019.

About the University:

The Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla (HPNLU, Shimla), placed in the geographical terrains of the Himalayas, is in its third year of existence, under the dynamic leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nishtha Jaswal. The Institution is one of few educational Centers in the country which enjoys natural endowment of mesmeric beauty of locational topography, excellent/enjoyable weather conditions throughout the year. The University, in this respect, is bestowed with all-natural conditions facilitative of creation, seeking and imparting knowledge.

HPNLU, Shimla, was established by the Himachal Pradesh National Law University Act, 2016 (16 of 2016) in September 2016. The University is currently operating from Himachal Pradesh Judicial Academy Campus. Its own campus, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, is being constructed, where the University is hopeful to move by July/August 2019.

The University started functioning from October 05, 2016. It is a participating university of the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs). The batches of B.A./B.B.A.LL.B. (five-year integrated course), LL.M. (One Year Programme), are admitted through CLAT [Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)] tests. The University conducts every year its own National Level Test for selecting candidates to the Ph.D. Programme in Law. Currently, the third batches of UG, PG and Ph.D. students, are pursuing their respective courses.

Submission Categories

The HPNLU Law Journal invites submissions under the following categories-

  1. Articles (8000-12000 words excluding footnotes)
  2. Case Comments (5000-8000 words excluding footnotes)
  3. Case Notes and Legislative Comments (5000-7000 words excluding footnotes)
  4. Book Reviews (2000-3000 words excluding footnotes)

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Theme: The theme(s) or topic(s) for the volume is not confined to a specific domain. All submissions engaging facets of legal interest and relevance shall be accepted.
  2. All submissions in Electronic form: All contributions shall be submitted in electronic form. The paper should be processed in MS Office 2010 onwards, double spaced, with a left margin of one and a half inches and send to editor@hpnlu.ac.in
  3. Abstract: Abstract of 150-200 words in length should be sent along with the electronic submissions.
  4. Cover Letter: All submissions must be accompanied with a cover letter providing the title of the paper, name, designation, and details of the author and co-author(s) institutional affiliation. It is mandatory for the author/co-author(s) to make a solemn declaration regarding the originality of the paper and that the paper has not been previously published or submitted for consideration elsewhere.
  5. Communication of Acceptance: The decision of the editorial board vis-à-vis to acceptance and rejection of a submission for publication shall be final. The decision of acceptance will be communicated to the contributor within six weeks of receiving the submission.

    Style Requirement

    1. Citation: For citation and references, The Bluebook, A Uniform System of Citation (19th Ed.), should be strictly followed.
    2. Lengthy Quotation(s) discouraged: Author(s) should avoid lengthy quotation(s) and keep them precise and succinctwherever necessary. It is further directed that quotation(s) must carry apt acknowledgment.
    3. Footnotes: Lengthy and multi-paragraph footnotes are discouraged. footnote must provide the page number(s) of the source(s). In the case where judicial pronouncements are the source, it is mandatory to cite the paragraph of the judgment in addition to the page number of the Reporter.
    4. Websites: Only authoritative websites must be cited. References to (or citing them in footnotes) unauthentic internet sources inter alia Wikipedia, blogs, etc. In gravamen, any sources which can be manipulated by the third person are strictly prohibited.

    Terms and Conditions

    The submission(s) should meet the following terms and conditions:

    1. The submission(s) should be coherent, well researched and elucidate in nature. As abovementioned, it must necessarily follow a uniform citation method for footnotes/references.
    2. The submission should be the original work of the contributor and not a mere compilation of pre-existing works on the subject. The researched contributions should not violate the copyright of other person(s). Further, contributor(s) must give a certificate/declaration as to the authenticity of the work.
    3. The copyright in all articles, published in the Volume, shall vest in the owner of the Law Review, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla.
    4. There is generally, a prevailing (mal)practice to adopt other’s work together with footnotes. If one is reading from works of an author and that author has quoted yet other books or cases etc., the rule is that the one has to find out each original source. The context of the author might be different. One is not entitled to pick up the footnotes of that other author as also his propositions relating to it. If original is not looked at, you should quote the secondary author and state that the previous author relied on the source as stated in footnotes of previous work.
    5. The Contributor has to cover the risk of being sued for copyright, defamation or contempt and agree to suffer the losses if caused by violating copyright or otherwise
